Colour Palettes

I’ve been considering my colour palettes for a while now. The range of glazes available can feel overwhelming, and I’m increasingly keen to narrow my focus so that I can really push each glaze further — refining them into something considered, deliberate, and strong in its own right. At the same time, I want to develop a group of glazes that work together as a cohesive family, where tones and surfaces complement one another while still holding their own individual character.
To help bring clarity to this process, I turned to the Salt Marsh for inspiration. It offers a naturally evolving palette shaped by weather, tide, and season — subtle shifts of tone that feel both restrained and endlessly varied. From this, I began drawing together a series of colour studies as a starting point for further investigation. These first explorations take cues from the fauna and flora of the marsh, including the birds that inhabit and move through it.
