Bowls - a more considered approach

I threw three bowl shapes after blending some PF690 into the Staffordshire stoneware clay midway through kneading. I made sure not to overwork the clay, aiming to preserve the contrast between the dark clay and the lighter clay. I then spent some time carefully considering the best way to slip decorate the surfaces without overcomplicating the natural blend of the clay. The fourth bowl, however, was made using just the Staffordshire stoneware.

Bowl H1 - Parian slip, 3 coats, applied after mark making

Bowl H4 - Stencils inspired by the abandoned boat in Mahan Drahan, black slip sponged over the top.

Bowl H5 - tape of two different widths applied, then mark making with black slip representing the contrast between man made structures and the movement of the tide in the estuary

Bowl H6 - white slip applied via a shaped sponge representing the channels of mud perpendicular to the main channel of the estuary
